A woman was recently arrested in a road rage incident in Central Florida that ended in a shooting.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the intersection of South Hilltop Road and West Brandon Boulevard in Brandon, near Tampa, after receiving reports of gunfire between two automobiles.
Deputies arrived and discovered Aiden Richards, 21, with a gunshot wound, as well as the other involved individual. Richards was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries to her lower body.
Detectives discovered that both parties had stopped at a red light and engaged in an altercation.
In reaction, Richards fired a pistol at the other vehicle, striking it many times. According to police officials, the driver of the other vehicle pulled out a pistol and opened fire, striking Richards.
Richards was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (x2), attempted murder in the second degree with a firearm—discharge (x2), and shooting at or into a vehicle (x2).
“This kind of behavior is dangerous, irresponsible, and could have easily ended in tragedy,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Using a firearm because you’re angry behind the wheel is beyond unacceptable. We will not allow this kind of chaos on our roadways, and those who choose violence will face serious consequences.”
Local law enforcement reports that this is an ongoing inquiry.
