Mother Taken Into Custody After Allegedly Swinging Broom At Her Daughter

A mother was taken into custody after allegedly swinging a broom at her daughter in the front yard of their home.

Eugenia Rices, 42, of Ocklawaha, was arrested on an assault charge by Marion County authorities on Thursday.

The daughter contacted law enforcement, and when a deputy arrived at the family home, she reported an attack in which her mother allegedly whacked her in the back with a broom during an argument. Rice’s son grabbed his mother and held her to the ground until she calmed down.

Rice said that the broom never made contact with her daughter.

Among the witnesses was the daughter’s boyfriend, who also lives in the house.

Rice was detained on the accusation of assault. She was booked into Marion County Jail and released after posting a $500 bond.
