72 Years Old Man Charged In 1992 Murder Of Miami Jewelry Store Owner: Police Say

More than three decades after a Miami jewelry store owner was discovered shot to death inside his shop, police have arrested the man they believe is responsible for the killing.

Omar Roy, 72, was arrested Wednesday on a first-degree murder allegation in the death of Dionisio Carlos Valladares on May 6, 1992, according to an arrest document.

Valladares was discovered lying in a pool of blood in the back workshop area of his Zamora Jewelry Store at 1006 Southwest 1st Street.

He was pronounced deceased due to a gunshot wound to the head.

An employee who had attempted to contact Valladares via phone went to the store and discovered the victim inside. The witnesses reported hearing a “bang” from the company, according to the affidavit.

Investigators discovered that a significant amount of jewelry had been stolen from a damaged display area in the store, and Roy’s fingerprints were located on a phone and a piece of a broken mirror on a display counter shelf, according to the affidavit.
