A trio was detained on drug trafficking charges after a large amount of methamphetamine was discovered in their vehicle during a checkpoint on the outskirts of town early Saturday morning.
According to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark, the driver, Jason Quinn, 40, of 1501 Sunflower Springs Road in Louisville, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and trafficking in controlled substances.
Two passengers, Hallee Logan Crapps, 26, 10940 Road 355, Union, and Meagan Irene Morris, 34, 10391 Road 573, were detained and charged with trafficking a narcotic substance.
Clark stated that law enforcement first spotted the trio on July 26 at 2:30 a.m. at a safety checkpoint on Highway 15 south near the city limits manned by Philadelphia Police and the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department.
Quinn’s white Chevrolet truck approached the checkpoint. Clark said a roadside inquiry with the occupants discovered a secret compartment beneath the truck’s center console.
“Inside the compartment,” Clark went on, “deputies discovered a plastic bottle wrapped in electrical tape, which contained three baggies of a crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine.”
Deputies eventually weighed the material, which was around 65 grams, a criminal quantity, according to Clark.
Quinn is still in the Neshoba County Detention Facility, facing a $50,600 bond. Morris and Crapps both bonded out for $10,000 each.
