Some people might say that money makes the world go ‘round. As true as that might be, it could be argued that food is actually what makes the world go round. We all have to eat right? And this time of year, a typical American kid’s diet is mainly made up of sugar, specifically Halloween candy, at least it was. I went around the school asking students what they planned to do with their leftover candy and senior Natasha Hoth said “I don’t know if i’ll even have extra halloween candy but if i do I’ll probably make it into something.” And junior Parker  Cummings said “I would binge on most of the candy and then the rest would just sit there for a while..”

Each year it seems like the average kid comes home from trick-or-treating with more and more candy, but it’s always the same candy. Be it Snickers, Reese’s, M&M’s or candy corn, it’s the same every year. I have some ideas for what to to with this leftover candy, and if you happen to be a chocolate lover, these recipies are for you.

Frankenstein Bark:

What you’ll need:

•Halloween candy (chocolate)

•Baking chocolate or chocolate melts

Instructions:

1. Firstly, you will want to collect all your mini chocolate bars and candy corn into a pile. (Unwrapped).

2. Melt a whole lot of white chocolate or chocolate of choice in microwave. Don’t use the candy bars, use a chocolate brick or baking chocolate. (Hershey bars work well).

3. Lastly, on a baking sheet with parchment paper, pour chocolate onto pan. Spread into a thin layer and then stick the candy of choice onto the chocolate layer and chill in freezer for 20-30 minutes until hard.

4. Break into pieces and enjoy!

Witch’s Brew Brownies:

What you’ll need:

•Box brownie mix and brownie mix ingredients

•Halloween candy

•Edible eyes

Instructions:

1. What you need to do first is preheat your oven and make the brownie mix according to the box instructions.

2. Pour the brownie batter into pan and top with Halloween candy. Save half to place on top after cooking.

3. Bake according to package instructions.

4. Five minutes before the brownies have finished cooking, remove them from the oven and the edible eyes.

5. Let cool and enjoy!

These recipies are great to serve with friends or at parties. And if you’re not too sick of sweetness you can melt more chocolate and dip pretzels or potatoe chips in the chocolate and then into the crushed up candy and eat that as a snack!
