According to the Arizona Weatherman, monsoon thunderstorms in Arizona on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, are likely to cover more ground than yesterday and have greater severity. However, the severity of these thunderstorms will be less than that of those expected in the following days. Expect more monsoon thunderstorms to hit the state in the coming days.
Thunderstorms are expected to begin about 12 p.m. on Tuesday and continue into the early evening hours across the Mogollon Rim and southern Arizona. This convection is expected to occur in Yavapai, southern Coconino, Gila, southern Navajo, and Apache Counties. Expect to see Eastern Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham, and Greenlee counties in Southern Arizona. Thunderstorms are more likely in Nogales, Sierra Vista, and the surrounding area south of Tucson. Late afternoon, there may be some isolated activity in the Catalina Mountains. Severe weather conditions, including convective wind gusts above 60 mph, hail, isolated flooding, and dust storms, are also possible.
Similar weather and thunderstorms are forecast across the state on Wednesday, including along the Rim and in southern Arizona. Additionally, severe weather, including thunderstorms, is expected throughout the day and into the nighttime hours. The thunderstorms appear to be pushing off the Rim and moving southward with the steering flow. Monsoon thunderstorm coverage in the state is expected to grow on Thursday and Friday, August 14-15. The East Pacific tropical basin appears to be quiet for the next few days in terms of new development.
