Illegal Mexican immigrant charged with attempted murder in Central Florida

An illegal immigrant from Mexico was charged with attempted murder in Central Florida.

According to local law enforcement, joking between two Lakeland roommates ended in one of the men being cut by a broken beer bottle and the other being jailed for attempted murder.

Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office recently arrived at the hospital where the victim was being treated for his wound. The laceration in his neck was just an inch from his carotid artery.

According to the victim, the two men were drinking beer and fooling around when the suspect became irate. The suspect allegedly cut the victim. A neighbor took the victim to the hospital.

Deputies found the suspect at a shared residence on New Tampa Highway in west Lakeland. He was recognized as 30-year-old Jose Munoz from Mexico.

During an interview with detectives, Munoz acknowledged cutting his roommate. He said that his roommate threw the bottle at him first, and he cut the man while he was walking toward him. Munoz confirmed that the victim did not have a weapon when he was cut.

Jose Munoz defied deputies’ attempts to apprehend him when he was captured. He was transported to the Polk County Jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder and resisting without violence. Because Munoz is in the United States unlawfully, both charges are increased.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was notified, and Jose Munoz was placed on HOLD.
