Detectives from the OPD were able to identify the child’s parents after conducting an investigation. The Fugitive Investigative Unit captured Angelica Sanchez Bautista and charged her with child neglect. According to OPD, there was no evidence at the time to suggest that the child’s father was aware of the mother’s acts.

The Orlando Police Department reminds all parents and caregivers that the Safe Haven Law exists to provide a secure, legal, and confidential way to relinquish babies. Parents can safely leave their newborn with someone at designated sites, such as a hospital, a manned fire rescue station, or a staffed emergency medical service station, with no questions asked, anonymity guaranteed, and no fear of arrest.

To learn more, visit the Safe Haven for Newborns website or call their toll-free, multilingual crisis hotline at 877-767-BABY (2229).
