Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division have identified and charged a suspect in a road rage incident.
On July 10, 2025, the victim stopped at a red light at Billingsley Road and Middletown Road, triggering the incident. The driver on a motorcycle drove past him and fired several rounds from a firearm, smashing the victim’s car windows and causing minor injuries.
When cops arrived, the victim indicated that he and the motorcycle driver had been involved in a road rage incident just moments before.
Detectives began investigating the crime and identified a suspect, Robert Derek Simms, 36, of Waldorf. A subsequent investigation discovered that Simms is forbidden from carrying a handgun due to a prior conviction.
On August 5, a search warrant was executed at Simms’ home, and evidence linking him to the shooting was discovered, including a handgun with an erased serial number. Simms was arrested at the location of the search warrant and charged with aggravated assault, firearm violations, and other crimes.
On August 14, a judge ordered Simms held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. Detective Gregory is investigating.
