A Mexican woman was sentenced to two years in prison for pepper spraying a border patrol agent in Arizona, authorities said Tuesday.
Sandra Meza-Casillas, 51, was sentenced on August 11, and her jail term will be followed by three years of supervised release, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
Meza-Casillas previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer.
Details on Mexican woman sentenced for assaulting border agent
In April, a US Border Patrol agent in Nogales attempted to apprehend someone who had jumped over the international border wall.
That agent discovered Meza-Casillas on a road near the border wall, resting flat on her stomach.
When the agent reached Meza-Casillas, she started running down the road, while two guys on the south side of the border wall appeared to guide her.
The agent caught up to Meza-Casillas and grabbed her shoulder, attempting to make an arrest.
However, Meza-Casillas spun around and sprayed the agent’s left cheek with pepper spray.
