A man was arrested in San Bernardino County after reportedly kidnapping and molesting a young girl who was searching for her lost dog.
The suspect has been identified as Guillermo Cascante, 57, of San Bernardino, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
On August 19, the victim, an 11-year-old girl, went seeking for her lost dog near San Francisco and 14th streets in Highland.
Cascante was driving a large white van when he saw her. He pulled over and allegedly offered to assist the girl while pretending to work for Animal Control. According to officials, the girl got into Cascante’s van, and he drove away.
Cascante is accused of bringing out a handgun and driving the girl around the city before molesting her.
He then dumped her off around Cunningham and 9th streets. The girl ran home and told her parents about the incident.
Deputies performed an area investigation and discovered the suspect’s van parked around 18th and Guthrie streets. On August 20, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2000 block of East 18th Street where Cascante was discovered.
He was arrested for kidnapping, lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 using force or terror. He is still in detention without bail.
Detectives believe there may be more victims, and they have issued images of Cascante and his vehicle, which is described as a white, older model ambulance van.
