“It’s almost unbearable to consider throwing away a winning $1 million lottery ticket, but a local truck driver did just that with his MONOPOLY X100 scratch-off.
The Columbia resident stopped at the Travel Centers of America rest stop in Elkton because he had broken wiper blades and needed a cup of coffee. Once he had everything he needed to get back on the road, he decided to buy some lottery tickets, ultimately choosing the $20 MONOPOLY X100 game.
The Howard County resident discarded his ticket, assuming it was not a winner. He had second thoughts and chose to retrieve and scan the ticket. After scanning the ticket, he noticed the message, “See Lottery,” and realized he had made the correct decision to double-check the ticket.
Despite his excitement over his victory, he has decided to keep the news quiet. The Colombian man has not chosen what he would do with his winnings. He already has a home, but he may buy a second one.
Travel Centers of America on 1400 Elkton Rd. in Cecil County will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling a winning scratch-off for $1 million.
