Arp Elementary assistant principal and son apprehended

Arp police have taken into custody an assistant principal at Arp Elementary who is accused of not reporting knowledge of a sexual assault committed by her adult son.

Karla Florence is charged with Class A failure to report and Class B false reporting to a peace officer.

Blake Florence, 21, was also detained and charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child and third-degree tampering with evidence, according to police. He is Karla Florence’s son.

According to a press release, Karla Florence failed “to provide accurate and truthful information to investigators, as well as her legal duty, under Texas law, to report knowledge of a felony offense when serving in her capacity as an educator.”

Police released the following statement:

“The protection of children and the preservation of community trust remain our highest priorities. The Arp Police Department is committed to pursuing justice wherever the evidence leads and will continue to dedicate every available resource to this case. While the investigation is ongoing, we urge the community to understand that additional charges may be filed as more evidence is reviewed.”

Arp ISD issued a statement stating that no Arp ISD student or staff member was involved in the arrest and that the occurrences occurred off Arp ISD premises.
