2 People Detained After Dumping Oil And Garbage Near Wildlife Refuge, Sherwood Police Say

Sherwood Police say they caught two people tossing garbage and oil out of a pickup truck over the weekend.

According to a police Facebook post, an off-duty officer was driving down SW Pacific Highway when he noticed the “trashy behavior” near the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.

The suspects fled in a pickup before officers could arrive. A King City sergeant later noticed the vehicle and pulled it over in Tigard.

According to police, both the passenger and the driver acknowledged discarding the materials, claiming that O’Reilly’s “wouldn’t take used oil,” so they assumed it was okay to dump it near Pick N Pull.

Both suspects were arrested on charges of offensive littering. Police said the passenger had outstanding warrants for theft and drug possession.

The spilled goods were also cleaned up.
