Veterans Day 2018

Gabby Booth, section editor

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, is celebrated yearly on November 11th. It all started on November 11th, 1919, on the first anniversary of the end of World War 1. The holiday didn’t become an official national holiday until 1938, but was passed by Congress as an annual observance in 1936. Veterans Day was put in place to pay tribute to all of the American soldiers, the living and the dead.

On Monday, November 12th, 2018, Ridgeline gathered together to honor the Veterans. Firefighters joined us in the pledge of allegiance to start off the assembly, followed by the singing of the national anthem sung by the Rhapsody, the Ridgeline chamber choir. Rhapsody also sang another tear-jerking song called “Homeland”. There were many moving presentations followed by a speaker that served in the U.S. Navy. He told us so many cool stories about his time while he was deployed, and some funny ones as well, including a humorous story about how a group of 5,000 soldiers once received enough chicken for 50,000 men. We finished off the assembly with Mrs. Harris bringing to light the many people who serve and have served here at Ridgeline. The assembly was a great way to honor all of our great veterans!
