An 18-year-old man was detained on Thursday and faces federal charges in the fatal shooting of a 69-year-old grandmother with a walker in East Harlem last week.
Faisil McCants is accused of firing 15 rounds from a machine gun onto a public street on August 27, striking and killing Robin Wright near East 110th Street and Madison Avenue.
Wright, who was with a friend and using a walker at the time, was not the intended victim. She was caught up in what authorities suspect was a gang-related drug-dealing dispute.
McCants was caught with the help of the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations. He was detained after meeting with his probation officer.
In addition to the federal charge of carrying a machine gun, McCants is facing state charges from the NYPD for murder, robbery, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He is set to appear in federal court on Friday.
