A woman was detained on Tuesday after reportedly stabbing a man and leaving him to die in a West Valley church parking lot, according to authorities.
The Surprise Police Department opened a death investigation after a corpse was discovered face down near 113th Avenue and Bell Road around 6 a.m.
Tyrone Lee Wetzler, 28, was repeatedly stabbed, according to authorities.
Investigators discovered that Wetzler and two other unhoused individuals, including Kahpri Wells, had authorization to stay on the Unitarian Universalist Church grounds.
What did stabbing suspect allegedly tell police?
When officers questioned Wells, 32, she allegedly admitted to stabbing Wetzler after an incident on Monday night and leaving.
Wells was arrested Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.
