Two women from Passaic are facing charges for allegedly shoplifting from a HomeGoods store at 50 International Drive South and fraudulently obtaining a gift card, according to police.
Police said they came to the store on March 15 at 5:05 p.m. for an allegation of past-tense theft. According to a store investigator, two women entered the store, chose stuff, and returned it in exchange for a $139.98 gift card. After obtaining the gift card, they allegedly removed more products for $50.97, including a planter and artificial flowers, and departed the business without paying.
The investigation identified Yennifer Nin-Hernandez, 29, and Paola Mercedes, 29, both of Passaic, as the culprits.
Mercedes was detained without incident at police headquarters on May 13th. She was charged with shoplifting and theft by deception and was held at the Morris County Correctional Facility for a court appearance.
Nin-Hernandez surrendered to authorities on May 21 for an outstanding warrant. She was also apprehended without incident and charged with fraud and shoplifting. She was held in the Morris County Correctional Facility for her court appearance.
