Police: Chicago Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting Victim In Eye

A man has been charged with a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s Southwest Side earlier this month, which left another man hospitalized.

The shooting took place at around 9 p.m. on September 8 in the 5200 block of South Fairfield Avenue.

Cesar Herrera, 37, allegedly fired rounds from a vehicle, hitting a 36-year-old man in the eye when he was strolling outdoors in the Gage Park neighborhood, according to police.

The victim was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital and was listed in fair condition.

Herrera was detained around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 4600 block of South Karlov Avenue. He was accused of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.

Herrera’s detention hearing is planned for Wednesday.
