A smirk. Maya Gibbs was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Friday morning on a serious charge: North Miami Beach police detained her on a complaint of first-degree arson after she allegedly set fire to a property over a dispute with a roommate.
Gibbs, 28, allegedly set fire to the home at 1300 NE 180th St. shortly before 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
According to the arrest report, Gibbs reported the fire to her roommates, but detectives found she was the one who started it and allegedly admitted to it.
Gibbs had a “history of conflict” with one of her roommates, including a verbal dispute about $200 one month previously and another over her roommate’s usage of the Spanish word “” “negra”—”Black” woman”—which was “mistakenly interpreted” as a racial slur.
Authorities stated they arrested Gibbs.
As of Friday afternoon, she was still at TGK, with a bond noted as “to be set.”
