A Shelbyville woman has been arrested on child neglect charges after police discovered her 22-month-old child dead in a driveway late Wednesday night.
According to the Shelbyville Police Department, police rushed to the 900 block of Hale Road at 10:45 p.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive child. The area is a housing development off Miller Avenue, near the Big Blue River.
Police said they arrived to discover Sophie Igou, 22, outside with her toddler, who was resting on the driveway. Officers attempted first aid but discovered that the child had already died.
Detectives were dispatched to the scene, and Igou was arrested for neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Police have not said when the autopsy will be done to determine the child’s cause of death.
