Technology and Information… How It Affects Us Today

Aleena Wilcox, Writer

My favorite Phineas and Ferb episode is the one titled Ferb Latin. Dr. Doofenshmirtz says, “I found out most people will believe anything they read, and I know it’s true because I read it online somewhere.”

Technology is all around us these days and the information we get from it fills our mind with things almost every minute. Some of that information is good and we learn from it, like school work or even the news on how things are going during this pandemic. We can also see things that may not be true in a variety of places almost daily. One example of this happened not too long ago, on April 1st (April Fool’s). I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw an image that said:

I was shocked and thought, “I can’t believe the Governor would really do this!” After looking into it further, I realized that it was a hoax for April Fool’s. And yet, this was shared over and over again and the Governor’s office had hundreds of calls about it.

These things can and do have a massive impact on our society. People have a tendency to  read things on the internet and post and share things without checking to make sure they are legitimate first. They follow Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s saying how people will believe anything they read, especially,

”.

Come back each week as I continue to examine how information is manipulated and how it impacts us in this digital age.
