Armed Man Apprehended At Charlie Kirk Memorial Site

An armed man who claimed to be law enforcement was apprehended at State Farm Stadium on Friday, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

The arrest came just two days before conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, which is scheduled for September 21 at the stadium. A strong security presence is expected, and federal officials are currently monitoring any threats to the service.

The Secret Service told NewsNation that the man was armed with a knife and a gun and “acting suspiciously,” and that both the Secret Service and local law enforcement are looking into why he was there.

The Department of Homeland Security has designated Sunday’s service as a Level 1 Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR), which provides the federal government broad authority to impose security surrounding the event. This category is normally reserved for major events such as the presidential inauguration and the Super Bowl.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has charged an unidentified guy.
