On June 15, 2023, Malajah Mcewen was charged with criminal assault.
“He actually bit a police officer,” stated Crime Stoppers’ Andy Kahan.
Mcewen spent months out of jail on a personal recognizance bond until he was declared incompetent.
After seven months at Rusk State Hospital, McEwen is found competent to stand trial.
He returns to Harris County and has his PR bond reinstated.
After being released from the state hospital on August 1, 2024, a judge orders McEwen to live in a halfway house just south of downtown.
According to FOX 26, McEwen was not a good fit and required more severe care.
Mcewen winds up at Creekview Adult Health Care Services, a group home on the west side.
About a month after moving there, McEwen allegedly attacked another neighbor, a 67-year-old woman.
He is currently in a mental health center in North Texas.
Mcewen is the third defendant FOX 26 has identified since June who has been charged with felonies after being found competent.
Rocky Annis and Gregory Wayne Brooks, like McEwen, were charged with sex crimes while out on bail.
