The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide in Tampa.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting near Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street around 4:20 on Friday afternoon.
The backstory: Terrel Ferrell, 24, was a passenger in a car with a female driver and a toddler in the rear seat.
According to HCSO, the car came to a halt at the junction to speak with the suspect when he began shooting.
When the driver of the vehicle fled the area to avoid the shooter, he collided with a motorized biker, who sustained minor injuries.
The driver then headed to a neighboring Thorntons convenience shop for assistance.
Ferrell suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
What they’re saying: “This is a tragic loss of life in our community that never should have occurred,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We’re committed to finding who did this and making sure justice is served. If you have any information, please come forward.”
