Classic rock in itself has long been established as a true American music genre. In fact, one could argue that classic rock is the staple of American music culture. So, if you are curious as to where to start when looking for the best of the best, here is a list of some of the most influential classic rock hits that range from the 1960’s-1980’s that you need to add to your playlist as soon as possible.
1976 was definitely an important year for classic rock hits, with the Eagles “Hotel California” making it to the top of the charts. Other Eagles songs that are just as superior include, “Life in the Fast Lane,” “Heartache Tonight,” and “Take It to the Limit”. The band Steppenwolf might not be as famous or well-known as others that will be mentioned, but the band’s song “Born to be Wild” is a good classic.
If you haven’t listened to Pink Floyd, you haven’t had a true classic rock experience. A popular hit of theirs would be the 1979 hit from their album “The Wall”, titled “Comfortably Numb”. A few other great ones off of that album are “Another Brick in the Wall”. Don’t listen to that in school though, you may or may not feel the need to begin some sort of rebellion. “Hey you” is another one from the album that will have you wanting more Pink Floyd.
Chicago is another famous band of the 70’s-80’s. Some of their fan favorites include “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” and “You’re the Inspiration”. Both of those have a nostalgic feel and are the prime examples of classic love ballads.
All of these songs will leave you with a better understanding of the music we listen to today, as well as giving you something to jam to when you’re in need of some quality toones.
