Dayton Woman Sentenced To Prison For Embezzling $1.7M From Oregon Veterans Of Foreign Wars

A 61-year-old Dayton woman has been sentenced to two years and one month in prison for embezzling $1.7 million from the Department of Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Cheryl Elizabeth Campos used her position as quartermaster of the VFW to access the VFW’s bank accounts between January 2022 and June 2024, embezzling large sums of money and transferring them to her personal accounts.

According to court filings, Campos altered financial documents, accounting records, and bank statements to conceal her activity. The woman embezzled more than $1.7 million from the VFW.

She Bought Hundreds of Statues, Crystals and Semi-Precious Stones

According to court records, Campos spent the money on a family member’s vehicle, credit card payments, and personal expenses, as well as hundreds of statues, semi-precious stones, crystals, and marbles.

Campos was charged with wire fraud on March 24, 2025, and pleaded guilty on April 15, 2025. In addition to her 25-month prison term, Campos was sentenced to three years of supervised release.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Robert S. Trisotto, Assistant US Attorney for the District of Oregon.
