A thief who attempted to steal a tire from an off-duty Newark police officer’s personal vehicle was arrested following a scuffle with the cop on Sunday morning, according to authorities.
At or before 4:15 a.m., the off-duty officer noticed a guy removing the tire in the 300 block of Third Avenue West and approached him, according to Newark police.
As the two fought, someone hailed down a patrol vehicle, and cops arrested the man, according to authorities.
One of the responding officers was transported to a nearby hospital with a hand injury. According to police, both the off-duty officer and the arrested individual were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The allegations against the alleged thief were not immediately known.
