The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) released the results of a nationwide operation called “Vape Trail,” which resulted in the seizure of over 2.3 million illegal vape devices and cartridges, drugs, and weapons across the country.
The DEA Washington Division made 15 arrests and seized approximately $498,000 in narcotics in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
They also seized five weapons, 730 pounds of marijuana, and a “significant amount of dangerous THC-related products.”
“Our community will not stand by while illegal vape products endanger our citizens, particularly our children,” Christopher C. Goumenis, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Washington Division, said.
Goumenis said drug trafficking organizations deliberately target young people by using “bright colors, playful fonts, and imagery inspired by candy, popular cereals, or cartoons” and even disguise drugs as everyday items like pens or highlighters to entice kids.
