An 18-year-old is under arrest after allegedly attempting to steal a priest’s car when it was parked outside a Near North Side church on May 21, according to police.
What we know: The victim, a Catholic priest, stopped to check the mail at Holy Name Cathedral Parish before visiting some of the nuns for lunch at 11:25 a.m. The victim parked his 2015 Toyota RAV4 on the street, unlocked, keys in the ignition, and the engine running.

When the victim returned to his vehicle, he allegedly noticed Raleigh Ford trying to see if it was unlocked. When the victim shouted out to Ford, he got into the driver’s seat. The victim dashed to the automobile and entered from the passenger’s side. The two got into a physical confrontation, with Ford attempting to shove the victim out of the car while the victim managed to remove the keys from the ignition. Ford then departed on foot, heading in an unknown direction.
There were no injuries recorded.
The incident was captured on the Parrish CCTV.
On May 26, Chicago police caught Ford for a similar incident, and the victim positively identified him as the culprit.
What’s next: The investigation is ongoing, and charges are currently pending.
