Deported Murderer Taken Into Custody After Reentering Texas From Mexico

A Mexican national who was deported after serving a jail sentence for murder has been taken into custody again in Texas.

Gregorio Denova-Cantu, 51, was arrested in Laredo after a traffic stop on September 25 revealed he was an unauthorized immigrant, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety release issued Thursday.

Further research revealed that Cantu was a felon who had been deported from Texas to Mexico and had unlawfully reentered the United States.

Cantu was deported to Mexico after being released from an 18-year term for murder imposed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, according to the DPS.

He was convicted of murder in 2004 and was kept at the Huntsville Unit until his deportation. He is also a confirmed high-ranking member of the Hermandad de Pistoleros Latinos, according to DPS records.

Cantu has been sent to ICE custody.

The DPS notice did not specify whether or when Cantu will be deported again.
