Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department robbery detectives apprehended 19-year-old Steven Baker III for alleged involvement in an armed carjacking.
The armed carjacking happened in the 3200 block of North Central Avenue.
Just after 11 p.m. Monday, IMPD North District officers were summoned to the 3200 block of North Central Avenue in response to a carjacking report. A woman told investigators that she had been held at gunpoint and robbed of her car keys. The woman described the armed person, whom police eventually identified as Baker, who fled the area. Officers began looking for the stolen car and the suspect.
Less than two hours later, officers from the IMPD North District responded to a crash involving the stolen car at East 16th Street and Alabama Street. Officers apprehended Baker nearby after witnesses reported that he had bolted from the automobile following the incident.
Following an investigation, Baker was arrested and charged with armed robbery and unauthorized possession of a firearm by a major violent felon.
