A man recently apprehended for attempted murder in Indianapolis has nearly 100 previous charges.
Courtney Boose, 41, was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 69-year-old man at a petrol station in Lawrence earlier this week. The victim was sent to a hospital in critical condition and is still recovering.
According to court documents, after being identified as the suspect in the stabbing, Boose refused to comply with officers and attempted to exit the gas station. A cop tased Boose and then handcuffed him.
Boose is being jailed at the Marion County Jail under a $50,000 bond. An initial hearing is set on Thursday, October 2.
Many local and state authorities, including Indianapolis FOP President Rick Snyder, have expressed concern over Boose’s detention. He wonders how this career criminal gets repeatedly released onto the streets.
“We’re really confronted by our after-the-fact ‘Billy Badass’ prosecutor and our ‘woke, broke’ criminal justice system,” Snyder stated to “The Hammer and Nigel Show” this morning.
Snyder expressed shock upon learning that Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears had already downgraded the case against Boose to aggravated battery.
“That means this case, without even taking its first breath in the court system, has automatically been downgraded and reduced, cutting the possible sentencing range from an attempted murder at 20 to 40 years of imprisonment all the way down to three years to 16 years,” according to Snyder.
Boose has previously been charged with trespassing, theft, violence, and narcotics crimes. The great majority of cases were dismissed or resolved through a plea deal.
Records also show that Boose has never been imprisoned.
“How many times has someone in a black robe said, ‘You know what, I don’t think this guy is getting it’?” Snyder asked.
According to Snyder, Indianapolis has a homicide every 53 hours. This outpaces homicides in Chicago by around 10%.
Between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon, five people died after nine were shot and one was stabbed in Indianapolis.
