Ridgeline’s golf team on the road for another victory?

Ryder Bishop

Last year, The Ridgeline golf team took the state championship title. This year, they are planning on doing the same in a few weeks’ time according to some athletes on the team. In total there are 16 student athletes on the team. Only 6 students will get to participate in the state tournament. To decide who gets to go, the athletes earn points throughout the season and the top 6 athletes will be able to participate in the mid-October tournament in Hurricane, Utah.

Throughout the golfing season, there are 6 main tournaments everyone on the team gets to play in. After these 6 tournaments are over, they have a region tournament and then the state championship tournament. These tournaments are “weekly except for state”. The state tournament will be a two-day event starting on Wednesday, October 12th and ending the following day, the 13th. The golf course is a par 72 course that the athletes will have to play twice. Since Ridgeline is a 4A school, they will play against the other 14 schools that are also 4A.

After being asked if he thinks that Ridgeline’s golf team will take the state championship title for a second year in a row, Beckham Johanson, a senior on the team said “I hope so”. The golf team practices almost 6 days a week with each practice being 2-4 hours according to Rigdon Dyer, a sophomore on the team. After being asked why he golfs and continues to practice, Rigdon stated, “I like to see myself progress throughout the season” and that “it is fun”.  Most of the practices are held at the “Logan River Golf Course.” Since the State tournament is just a few weeks away, the golf team is starting to do individual practices every day except for Sunday’s.
