Postal Worker Apprehended For Theft Of $44K Check Intended For Woodbranch Village Contractor

In July 2024, a city official from Woodbranch Village contacted the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office to report check fraud.

The city had mailed a check for just less than $44,000 to a construction contractor for a municipally owned project. It was later revealed that the check had been stolen en route, altered, and placed in an unknown account.

The investigation was assigned to the Montgomery County Pct. 4 Criminal Investigations Division. After a protracted investigation, detectives located a suspect: Bridgette Ragland, 40, of Houston, a USPS employee.

Ragland was issued an arrest warrant for stealing, which is a third-degree crime. On the morning of October 9, 2025, representatives of the Precinct 4 Warrant Division and Criminal Investigations Division apprehended Ragland at her workplace, a post office in northwest Houston.

The Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office commended special agents from the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General for their cooperation during the investigation and apprehension.

“Our investigators worked hard on this case, making sure the suspect was held accountable for stealing from a local municipality,” said Constable Rowdy Hayden. “We appreciate the assistance of the Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General and their cooperation throughout this investigation.”
