Meridian Man Detained In Child Exploitation Case

Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador announced the arrest of a Meridian man for possessing child sexual exploitation materials.

On Tuesday, October 8, investigators from the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit arrested 30-year-old Austin Sypert on three counts of possessing sexually exploitative material.

“My ICAC Unit is making more arrests than ever before, and we will not stop pursuing those who harm children,” Labrador said. “I’m grateful for our law enforcement partners who share our commitment to protecting Idaho families.”

The Meridian Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and an ICAC investigator from the Nampa Police Department all assisted in the arrest.

Anyone with information concerning child exploitation should call their local police, the Attorney General’s ICAC Unit at 208-947-8700, or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.

The ICAC Task Force consists of federal, state, and local agencies that collaborate to investigate and punish internet crimes against minors.

The charges are merely accusations, and Sypert is assumed innocent until proven guilty.
