Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Brayden Cascio

The Ridgeline Theater department performed their latest comical and heartwarming show, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” on February 9th, 10th, 11th, and 13th. The showings were at 7:00 pm, with the exception of one Saturday Matinee on the 11th at 2:00 pm. To reserve a seat, you could either buy your tickets online or at the door at $8.00 for General Admission and $6.00 Admission for students and seniors.

The Theater Department had posters advertising the show put up around the school to encourage students to come. According to the posters, the show was, “Based on the MGM film and ‘The Sobbin’ Women’ by Stephen Vincent Benet” and it was “Originally directed for Broadway by Lawrence Kasha [and] Originally produced on Broadway by Kaslan Productions, Inc.” The author of the book was Lawrence Kasha and David Landay, the lyrics were written by Johnny Mercer, the music was written by Gene De Paul, and the new songs were by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn.

On IMBD.com, gives a very brief summary of the story in the original movie, saying, “In 1850 Oregon, […] a backwoodsman brings a wife home to his farm, his six brothers decide that they want to get married too.” In the trivia section found further down the page it has many interesting facts about the film. One of these interesting facts is that the whole movie was “Shot in only 48 days.”

Bryan Cascio brought his family to watch his daughter Riley Cascio in the play. Alluding to an event in the play, he said that “It was an avalanche of fun.” Riley’s grandfather, Dennis Cascio, said that it was very entertaining and that the cast seemed like professionals. Riley has now been in three shows and was cast in the ensemble for this production. She said that “It went [well]! The closing night, the seniors said, was the biggest crowd they’d ever had!” She added that it was a very fun and “upbeat” play.
