Investigation Underway After Newborn Baby Found Dead In Northeast DC

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is investigating the death of a newborn baby discovered in Northeast D.C. on Sunday morning.

According to MPD officials, at about 8:42 a.m., officers from the 6th District responded to the 300 block of 40th Street, Northeast, for a report of an infant death.

When authorities arrived, they discovered a newborn, whose gender had not yet been confirmed, unresponsive and not breathing.

First responders from the D.C. Fire and EMS Department attempted to save the baby’s life, but the infant was pronounced dead on the scene.
