Missing Statesboro Man Discovered Dead in Ohio

A Statesboro mother’s fear about her missing son prompted police to discover his body in an abandoned house and arrest a suspect 600 miles away in Ohio.

A 48-year-old Statesboro man’s mother reported him missing on October 11 after not seeing him in several days. Police discovered him dead inside an abandoned house in Ohio.

Using license plate scanners, detectives traced down the missing man’s car, which had traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio. When Ohio officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. Following a chase, officers apprehended Randall Lamar Williams, 49, of Statesboro, and a 17-year-old girl. The missing man wasn’t in the car.

Williams is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. He is still in jail in Hamilton County, Ohio, facing local charges linked to the police chase. He’ll be taken back to Georgia to face murder accusations.

Police have not revealed the victim’s name or how he died. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Coastal Crime Lab will conduct an autopsy to identify the cause of death.

This case demonstrates how contemporary technology, such as license plate readers, may assist police in tracking down suspects across state lines. The device informed cops when the victim’s automobile entered Ohio, resulting in a fast arrest hundreds of miles from the crime scene.
