Theatre Teacher Fatally Shot By Roommate After Returning From Visiting Husband In Indiana

A theater teacher was fatally shot by her roommate after returning from a visit to her family in Indiana.

According to WTVM and Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, 31-year-old Erica Anderson was tragically shot about midnight on Monday after her roommate mistook her for an intruder.

Bryan, who declared the death an accident, told the publication that Anderson’s roommate was sleeping when she heard someone enter the home. According to the coroner, the roommate had received terroristic threats from her son, who had allegedly threatened bodily harm and the burning down of her home.

Anderson had been renting a room at the house and was returning from a vacation to see her husband and their three children in Indiana when the shooting occurred, according to the publication. After entering the home, the coroner informed WTVM that the roommate grabbed her pistol and stepped out into the hallway, firing twice.

“She fired one shot and then fired another, hitting her roommate,” Bryan told the channel.

According to the article, an autopsy will be conducted at the state criminal lab. According to the publication, authorities referred to the incident as a terrible case of mistaken identity.

“You have to think about the roommate that shot her. I’m sure she’s devastated as anyone would be under the circumstances,” Bryan said when speaking with WTVM.
