A man and woman from Houston are charged with attempted second-degree murder after police say they shot at another vehicle during a road rage incident on Interstate 10 in Metairie.
Tilease Jacques and Kyandrea Berry, both 33, were arrested on October 11 in Baton Rouge after investigators tracked them down, according to Sgt. Brandon Veal, a spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Veal said the shooting occurred earlier that day on I-10 near Clearview Parkway. A 47-year-old New Orleans man and his 11-year-old child were heading west when they came across the suspects’ SUV, which was traveling in the same direction.
Jacques was at the wheel. According to Veal, the victim attempted to pass the SUV because it was moving slower than he was. But she continued speeding up.
“[Jacques] conducted maneuvers to prohibit the victim’s vehicle from getting in front of them,” Veal told reporters.
The SUV approached the victim’s vehicle, and a person in the passenger seat, subsequently identified as Berry, opened fire, according to police. Veal reported that the bullet hit the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle, causing no injuries.
The SUV continued on while the victim moved to the freeway shoulder. According to Veal, a state police trooper on the interstate noticed the victim’s dramatic lane changes. The officer learned about the shooting and alerted the Sheriff’s Office.
According to Veal, investigators located the suspicious vehicle and tracked it down to La Place. Authorities issued an alert for the SUV, and officers pulled it over in Baton Rouge.
Jacques was taken to Jefferson Parish on October 15. In addition to attempted murder, Veal said she was charged with assault by drive-by shooting, aggravated criminal damage to property, and unauthorized use of a weapon.
She was being held Tuesday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $375,000 bond.
Berry, a fugitive from Jefferson Parish, remained in custody in the East Baton Rouge Parish jail on Tuesday. He will face the same charges, Veal stated.
