A Georgia store owner who had been arrested twice in Newton County on allegations of embezzling millions of dollars was arrested a third time in Florida.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Julie Freeman of Covington was apprehended as a fugitive from justice on Saturday.
Previously, Channel 2’s Bryan Mims reported that Freeman was arrested twice in four days for theft of services after allegedly failing to pay four of her employees.
According to the arrest complaint from Florida, Freeman was found at a residence in Davenport, Florida.
Deputies spoke with a man named Christopher Michael Freeman, Julie’s husband, and a woman later identified as Julie.
Deputies investigated her driver’s license and discovered she had 10 felony and misdemeanor warrants in Georgia, so they notified the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Freeman’s extradition and the arrest warrants, which included multiple counts of misdemeanor theft of services, felony theft of services, and felony deposit account fraud.
“It should be noted, Freeman fled Georgia to avoid her charges and fled to another state passing state lines to avoid extradition and being arrested,” the arrest report states.
Freeman was charged earlier in October with embezzling more than $5 million and failing to pay employees at her Porterdale eatery, the Yellow River Ale House.
She was earlier arrested on September 25 after being pulled over for driving with a suspended registration, then again on September 29 for further charges.
Freeman is also accused of scamming the Nevada-based CPI Management Group while working as a financial officer there. Another firm owned by Freeman shuttered in July after she was evicted for failing to pay rent.
