While most people believe Texas is a secure place to live, we all know that drugs and crime do exist. No matter how hard police officers and other law enforcement organizations work, criminals will always try to breach the law.
Recently, a significant amount of drugs was seized as smugglers attempted to conceal it in a shipment of cucumbers and jalapenos.
Over $19 Million in Meth Seized
It was not a small operation. According to NBCDFW, Customs and Border Protection inspectors from the Office of Field Operations discovered not just $19 million worth of meth.
However, the same package contained an extra $144,000 worth of heroin.
How Were the Drugs Found in the Load Coming into Texas?
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4th, when Border Patrol agents stationed at the Pharr International Bridge stopped a vehicle attempting to enter the United States from Mexico.
The truck was investigated and found to contain 26 bags of heroin weighing more than 7 pounds. There were 8,206 packages of methamphetamine, totaling approximately 2,215 pounds.
Border Patrol Not Letting Anything Pass Without Inspection
With the current political atmosphere, Customs and Border Protection personnel are working harder than ever. The director of the Hidalgo-Pharr-Anzalduas Port of Entry, Carlos Rodriguez, stated,
“Our CBP officers do not skip any steps when it comes to securing our border.”
