An East Valley teacher has been sentenced to more than 100 years in prison for crimes committed against two of his former adolescent students.
Cory Kapahulehua, 44, was recently sentenced to 187 years in an Arizona prison after being convicted of many felony counts, including child molestation and sexual behavior with a minor, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
The defendant had worked as an instructor at the Arizona Agribusiness and Equine Center in Mesa. A 14-year-old and a 17-year-old girl reported sexual abuse by the teacher.
The older girl testified that the defendant brought her to his flat for sex on several occasions. According to MCAO, the defendant also organized a campaign to help the adolescent relocate out of her family home. They finally moved in together once she turned 18.
“This defendant used his position as a teacher to groom these students and take advantage of their trust,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell wrote in a statement.
