Gun And Drugs Discovered During Chicago Eviction; Two Men Charged Given Pre-trial Release

A court-ordered eviction on Chicago’s Southwest Side last month resulted in drug charges against two men after deputies discovered suspected heroin and cocaine inside the home, authorities said.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred at 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 22, when deputies went to a home in the 4400 block of South Lavergne Avenue to serve an eviction order.

Inside, deputies encountered several people. The sheriff’s office reported that one man, 38-year-old Durian Land, acted apprehensive and reached for his jeans pocket. Deputies searched him and discovered a plastic bag with suspected crack cocaine and cash.

According to investigators, a safety pat-down on 47-year-old Royayers Spicer revealed the presence of numerous little plastic bags containing probable heroin.

Both men were arrested, along with a third man wanted on Cook and McHenry County warrants.

While clearing the house, deputies discovered additional suspected cocaine in a backpack and a gun in a bedroom.

Land was charged with unlawful possession and delivery of a prohibited substance, while Spicer was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Both men appeared in court at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse and were freed on October 23.
