By Tuesday afternoon, police claimed a family member had traveled to Mexico, discovered the woman, and coordinated her surrender with the California Highway Patrol at the border.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the woman allegedly stole the vehicle from a sober living facility on the 1900 block of East Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks, and the pursuit began around 10:53 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver was driving southbound on the 405 Freeway in Brentwood around 11:24 a.m.

The woman occasionally drove erratically but usually remained in the fast lane at 70-80 mph.

At 11:38 a.m., a CHP officer stood on the northbound lanes of the 405 in Inglewood and attempted to toss a spike strip onto the southbound lanes, one of five attempts. The woman appeared to turn right to avoid the strip.

At 11:53 a.m., the driver passed into Orange County. By 12:15 p.m., the driver had crossed the southbound 5 Freeway into Mission Viejo and then into Camp Pendleton, bringing the pursuit to over 100 miles.

Around 12:40 p.m., the driver passed into Oceanside, San Diego County, resulting in a four-county pursuit. She later transferred to the 805 Freeway’s southbound lanes in San Diego’s University City neighborhood.
