A Wildwood Middle High School paraprofessional has been taken into custody for an alleged relationship with a teen student.
Madelyn K. Mead, 26, was arrested on Thursday at her Citrus County home and booked into that county’s prison.
An investigation was initiated when school officials learned Wednesday that Mead was having “an inappropriate relationship” with a 16-year-old pupil. School authorities quickly alerted the school resource officer, who began an inquiry.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division was notified, and they took over the investigation. Mead was immediately removed from the school by the Sumter County School Board. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
She was charged with having a romantic relationship with a student. She was being detained without a bond.
Mead had been employed by the Sumter County School Board since 2019. In 2022, Mead was nominated for School-Related Employee of the Year.
