A shooting at a bonfire in Clay County injured five individuals, including a 14-year-old.
According to Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott, the shooting happened Saturday on Cousins Road, on the county’s west side.
Three victims were treated at a hospital in West Point. Another was treated at a Tupelo hospital, while a fifth was treated in Jackson.
Their current situation is unknown.
Investigators suspect that two groups of people exchanged gunfire, with innocent bystanders bearing the consequences.
The sheriff believes that an event outside of Clay County led to the shooting.
The county has temporarily suspended permits for bonfires and trail rides, according to Scott.
