A Central Florida student was taken into custody after bringing a gun to school.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a student at Spoto High School in Riverview, near Tampa, for carrying a firearm to school. Last month, school administrators and an HCSO School Resource Deputy contacted 16-year-old Charles Lanorris Wallace Jr. after receiving information that he was in possession of a firearm on campus.
After inspecting the backpack, deputies discovered a pistol with a loaded magazine carrying seven 9mm rounds; however, there was no ammunition in the chamber.
“I am thankful for the quick actions of our deputy and the school staff. Their response stopped a potentially dangerous situation before anyone was harmed,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Let me be clear: weapons will never be tolerated in our schools. Parents, talk to your children and make sure they understand that bringing a weapon to school is not only illegal, it puts lives at risk.”
Charles Lanorris Wallace Jr. was arrested and charged with one count of possessing a weapon on school grounds.
