Former Dumont Mayor Andrew LaBruno allegedly sprayed an unknown substance on his hand and placed it over a teenage boy’s mouth, causing the incapacitated victim to become dizzy, and then forced him to perform fellatio on him, according to a criminal complaint read at a court hearing this afternoon.
The Jersey City police sergeant and former Assembly candidate will be held in custody until his first pretrial detention hearing on Friday morning.
According to Judge Anthony Gallina, LaBruno is also accused of sexual penetration using coercion and without consent, as well as intentionally engaging in sexual conduct with a child.
LaBruno appeared by telephone from a medical unit at the Bergen County Jail. Police arrested him yesterday at a private home in Englewood when he returned to the victim’s home to recover his cell phone.
Published reports said the victim’s father returned home during the assault and phoned the police.
The New Jersey Globe confirmed that he had been suspended from his police position without pay.
Just two weeks ago, LaBruno was 1,888 votes away from defeating incumbent John Azzariti (R-Saddle River) for a State Assembly seat in a Bergen County district.
